Field Visit | 2022
Field
trips are part of the curriculum and are meant to expose students to their
actual and practical fields of work where they visit different industries and
projects. Here they are expected to be very observant and inquisitive and
collect information which will assist in the gaining knowledge of how to works
theories that are learnt in the classroom in the industry. In our ambition, the
future managers of the information communication field and how to face the
related issues while engaging in such jobs, the advantages of engaging in the
information communication field, thus we were motivated to work intelligently
to achieve our goals.
The
visit was organized by the Department of Information Systems, Faculty of
Management Studies in Rajarata university of Sri Lanka under the coordination
of Mr.Udesh S. Senarath & Mrs.K.P.S. Bandara on 23rd of December
2022 and 42 of final year students of the department participated to that visit. A university bus was used for
transportation. The place we visited is SLT Mobitel Data Center which is
situated in address of SLT Mobitel Data Center, Dampe - Pitipana Rd. it
introduces state-of-the-art data center facilities par with global standards as
the proud pioneer of data center services in the country. With Uptime Data
Center Tier certification, Green Gold certification, ISO 27001 and ISO 900
quality standard certificates, SLTMobitel will collocate IT workload with a
purpose-built Tier III data center. There, the students were given the
opportunity to observe all the other places except the protected areas
including data racks, cooling systems, generator systems, security systems,
operating system, networking system, server systems, etc. Apart from that, awareness was given about
the factors to be considered while setting up a data center. Correct and explained details were given
by the technicians employed by the data center.
The
challenges of this field trip were the lack of time. The reason for this could
be the long destination and the problems in the bus.
However,
the students and the participating lecturers managed to complete a very
interesting and successful field trip by gaining a lot of knowledge, and the
students and lecturers thanked the officials and in-charges of the station for
the knowledge imparted. The field trip ended after thanking the students for
following the rules and maintaining discipline that the place expected of them.
